How do I schedule an appointment at Riverview Eye Care?

You can call us at (813) 498-1905 during office hours or request an appointment online through our website at any time. We welcome new patients and do our best to offer timely appointments, including same-day availability for urgent concerns.

Does Riverview Eye Care accept vision insurance?

We accept a variety of vision and medical insurance plans. We recommend calling our office at (813) 498-1905 with your insurance information prior to your appointment so we can verify your benefits and explain your coverage clearly before your visit.

How often should I have my eyes examined?

Most adults benefit from a comprehensive eye exam every year — even if their vision seems unchanged. Children should be examined annually, particularly during the school years when undetected vision problems can affect learning. Patients with diabetes, glaucoma risk factors, or a history of eye disease may need more frequent evaluations.

What is included in a comprehensive eye exam at Riverview Eye Care?

Our comprehensive eye exams include visual acuity testing, refraction, binocular vision assessment, intraocular pressure measurement, anterior segment evaluation, and dilated fundus examination of the retina and optic nerve. We also screen for systemic conditions including diabetes, hypertension, and elevated cholesterol that can affect the eyes.

Do you treat children?

Yes. We provide full-scope eye care for patients of all ages. Our pediatric exams screen for nearsightedness, farsightedness, astigmatism, amblyopia (lazy eye), and eye alignment issues. We also offer myopia management — including MiSight® 1 Day contact lenses and Stellest spectacle lenses — for children whose myopia is progressing.

What should I do if I have an eye emergency?

Call (813) 498-1905 immediately. We prioritize urgent and same-day appointments for eye emergencies, including sudden vision changes, eye injuries, pink eye, foreign body removal, and severe pain or redness. If you experience sudden vision loss, a chemical splash, or a penetrating eye injury outside of office hours, go to your nearest emergency facility.

Does Riverview Eye Care treat dry eyes?

Yes. We offer advanced, in-office dry eye treatments using the Forma-I (radiofrequency) and Lumecca-I (intense pulsed light) platforms — both designed to address the root causes of dry eye at the glandular and inflammatory level. These treatments go well beyond standard over-the-counter drops and provide long-lasting relief for many patients with chronic dry eye disease.

Do you fit contact lenses?

Yes. We fit a full range of contact lenses, including daily disposables, biweekly and monthly lenses, toric lenses for astigmatism, multifocal lenses, and rigid gas permeable lenses. Contact lens fittings are a separate service from the comprehensive eye exam and require additional measurements to find the right lens for your eyes.

What is myopia management and does Riverview Eye Care offer it?

Myopia management uses clinically proven optical interventions — including MiSight® 1 Day contact lenses and Stellest spectacle lenses — to slow the progression of nearsightedness in children. This is different from standard correction: the goal is to reduce how quickly myopia worsens, lowering the long-term risk of myopia-related eye disease. We offer myopia management consultations at Riverview Eye Care.

Do you provide care for patients on GLP-1 medications like Ozempic or Wegovy?

Yes. We offer dedicated eye evaluations for patients beginning or currently using GLP-1 medications. These exams assess retinal health in the context of rapid blood glucose changes and establish a documented baseline for monitoring over time. We recommend a baseline evaluation before or shortly after starting GLP-1 therapy.

Do you offer pre- and post-operative care for LASIK and cataract surgery?

Yes. Riverview Eye Care provides comprehensive surgical co-management, including pre-operative evaluations and post-operative monitoring for patients undergoing LASIK, cataract surgery, and other refractive procedures. We work in close coordination with your surgeon throughout the process.

Does Riverview Eye Care offer glaucoma screenings?

Yes. Glaucoma screening is incorporated into every comprehensive eye exam. For patients with elevated risk — including those over 40 with a family history, elevated eye pressure, or diabetes — we recommend annual screenings and may use additional diagnostic tools including OCT of the optic nerve and visual field testing.

Can I bring my whole family to one appointment location?

Yes. Riverview Eye Care is a family optometry practice providing care for all ages — from children having their first exam to older adults managing age-related conditions. We welcome the opportunity to care for your entire family at our Gibsonton office.

Do you carry eyeglasses and contact lenses in-office?

Yes. Our optical boutique features a curated selection of frames from quality eyewear brands, as well as a full range of premium lens options including digital progressives, anti-reflective coatings, blue light filters, and Transitions® photochromic lenses. We also carry contact lenses from leading manufacturers.
